In every state in the United States of America and in many countries around the world, Christmas is probably the most happy time of the year. People celebrate with family and friends. There are gatherings of every size. Special food and music can be found in most homes. We decorate with trees, garlands, lights and ornaments.

In Mississippi this is certainly the case. We decorate; we shop and give gifts. We share our time and ourselves with those we love. We enjoy special times in church. We take time to recollect memories that are stored in a special place in our hearts. We think about people and places of long ago. We allow those memories to inspire our making memories for the next generation so that one day, they will follow our example and remember.

A Christmas Enthusiast Prayer

As I untangle strings of Christmas lights, Lord help me to remember that I do this first to honor You. Never let me get so prideful of my display that I fail to see the wonders in the eyes of a child or the joy on the faces of those who are still children at heart. Never let me forget that my total effort is to make Christmas memories, bring

cheer and to slow down the pace of a hectic season if only for a moment and focus on the true meaning of Christmas. And Lord, someday when I meet you face to face, may I hear you say:

“When you made My people smile, you made Me smile.”
